Breaking News: I disagree with Oprah

Posted by Natasha on January 25, 2007

Today on Oprah’s first segment she had 30somethings who are single. Oprah asserted that men are intimidated by women like her bff Gayle because they look at her “purse and her boots” and think “I can’t pay for that.” Therefore, they don’t want to go out with her.

Excuse me, while I make sure I’m not watching Star Reynolds on The View circa a few months ago.

Okay I’m back. Wha-wha-wha-wha??? Seriously, O? Since when are you so materialistic? Or you just think all men are? I guess this is why she never married Stedman? I’m so confused!! I don’t like hearing Oprah say stupid things! It upsets my understanding of the way of the Universe!

I have to go to rosie.com and try and recover.

I don’t think Oprah likes men period. She does alot of male bashing all the time. Maybe this is why she is only building an academy for african girls, and leaving the little african boys out! She is generally a good person but I think she should sometimes listen to herself and stop talking nonsense.

I hadn’t even thought about the African boys! Am I going to have to reassess my relationship with Oprah? I can’t go through this kind of life change right now.

Okay I’ve had 30 seconds to get my act together. The reason she’s doing the school for the girls is because women there are treated so much less then men. So she’s giving them a chance. That still doesn’t explain why she thinks men don’t want to date Gayle because she has nice boots, but at least one fire has been put out.

You know, that Op-splanation of why men were “intimidated” by the lawyer lady struck me as odd, too. Do men know how much boots even cost?
Men in Washington D.C. (a town made up almost entirely of lawyers) are intimidated because she is a successful lawyer and wears nice clothes and owns her own earrings? I don’t buy it … I think that when women adopt that rationale, there are probably other factors at work. I’m no Doctor Robin, but I have been a successful recording artist for five years and I have observed two types of ladies in the boardrooms I’m in (though now that I think about it, this applies to the men, too): there are the ladies who are smart and successful and yet still down to earth and personable, and then there are the lunatic ice queen bitches who are also successful and smart but who make everyone around them miserable with their demands. Like that they must have fizzy water wherever they go with an unwrapped STRAW because God forbid their mouths touch the glass. I think a guy sees that, he’s not thinking about her earrings, he’s thinking “What else won’t her mouth touch?”

Did I take it too far?

You never take it too far Avril, never. Your experiences as a palatable punk rock recording superstar make everything you say okay.

I read that Oprah had some unkind words about Rosie on her XM radio show. If you can track those down, let us know. I love them both and hate that O has had recent issues w/Ro. :(
