Oprah agrees with Jamie Foxx’s weird statement

I know I’m getting to this late, but “better late than never to disect weird celebrity statements”, I think is how the expression goes. During Oprah’s Oscar special Sidney “I am the most adorable and intelligent human out there so everyone else can stop trying now” Poitier asked Mr. Foxx why he wasn’t married. Jamie said it was because now that he’s rich and famous he can’t trust any woman he would meet now would not want him for his money and fame. Before Sidney could say anything Oprah surprised them, interrupting their interview. After they got over the shock of seeing O, she turned to Sidney and said, ”Wasn’t that a great answer?!” Mr. Poitier kind of looked at her and said, ”Uh, yes,” quickly. So Oprah thinks it’s great that Jamie Foxx thinks all women are shallow gold diggers (as opposed to deep gold diggers)? I mean sure he’s rich, sure he’s talented, sure he’s famous…what was I saying? But seriously folks, I think it’s pretty sad (if not a touch mysognistic) that he views all potential partners as not being able to see past his money and fame. And then Oprah agrees with him? Oprah, you and I are disagreeing a lot this year! I’ll tell you what, why not have a late birthday show where you invite me to celebrate our birthdays together, and we’ll put it behind us. I know, I know, you thought I’d dropped that. Me too. Guess not!

Elisabeth kicks Rosie right in the Patriot Act

Well Elisabeth had to know by bringing up that she agrees with the Patriotic Act because well, she doesn’t mind the government listening in on HER conversations, that Rosie was going to lose it. I suppose there is the possiblity that Elisabeth doesn’t read Rosie’s blog, or read Rosie’s “ask Rosie” section, or obsessively peruse the general state of affairs in Rosieville like no one I know, so she may not know what a hot button the Patriotic Act is to Rosie. But regardless, Elisabeth said it and Rosie went a teensy weensy ballistic. She said Elisabeth said ignorant comments and the only way she could get past it was by telling herself that Elisabeth was young, and really everything Elisabeth thinks now is only because of her youth and she’ll wake up some day and realize the err of her ways.

I think this was very generous on Rosie’s part. Well, okay, I don’t think she should have called Elisabeth ignorant, and I think that it’s condescending to say that someone’s comments don’t count because of their age. But I think it’s generous to assume that Elisabeth won’t think that way when she’s older. And Rosie’s just going to have to realize that she loves her anyway.

Oprah unwittingly makes Helen Mirren a liar

What a tantalizing title! Actually Helen Mirren made herself a liar, she was just sitting next to O when it happened. On the Barbara Walters special Barbara asked Helen Mirren, “Is it true you never wear pants?” To which she responded, “Yes, I never wear trousers (ed note: trousers is British for pants).” And yet on the Oprah Oscar Special the lady was wearing jeans!! Are jeans different than trousers in England? Is black white? Is up down? I don’t have the answers, I’m just reporting on it.

Recapping the last month through bleary eyes

It is hard to remember EVERYTHING and the truth is I have been watching the O-lady only sporadically, but this is what I have to say about it:

The Secret show–I love the idea behind it. But I felt like all those spiritual pundits were fighting for O’s attention. It was like watching all the smart people in class trying to prove how smart they are to the teacher. All the spiritual people were trying to prove how spiritual they were to their Goddess O. A couple times when Oprah would exclaim, “I have never heard of that before!” and you could almost see the ones who didn’t say it racking their brains trying to come up with something extremely zen. Maybe that should be their next book: Extreme Zen.

O disses Rosie??? Do the kids still say “dis”? My kid only says “SCREEEEEEEEEEECH!!” She’s a big Saved by the Bell fan. But I’ve gotten off track. I don’t know why O has a bug up her bonnet (that’s right; mixed cliches are more powerful) about Ro but I would ask her to STOP. Sure, Rosie called her after Columbine in a crying fit when they really didn’t know each other. But you know what, if I had Oprah’s cell phone I would be calling her after I ate too much Cake Batter ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery and my tummy was very upset. Oprah seems like she could make anything better. So what, I’m NOT going to let her soothe me? Exactly.

Finally, Ro proved her cachet to the View when she wasn’t there for a week and it was as boring and annoying as it was before she ever got there. The truth is I could only stand it for three minutes before turning it off. I started to feel mysognistic when they were all talking over each other and I wanted to save myself from myself.

Hopefully I will stop having insomnia and begin updating more. Our 4 readers wouldn’t have it any other way!

Breaking News: I disagree with Oprah

Today on Oprah’s first segment she had 30somethings who are single. Oprah asserted that men are intimidated by women like her bff Gayle because they look at her “purse and her boots” and think “I can’t pay for that.” Therefore, they don’t want to go out with her.

Excuse me, while I make sure I’m not watching Star Reynolds on The View circa a few months ago.

Okay I’m back. Wha-wha-wha-wha??? Seriously, O? Since when are you so materialistic? Or you just think all men are? I guess this is why she never married Stedman? I’m so confused!! I don’t like hearing Oprah say stupid things! It upsets my understanding of the way of the Universe!

I have to go to rosie.com and try and recover.

My daily routine normally begins by watching The View with my mom, and today she made an astute observation.

Hot Topics has TOTALLY increased in length.

What was once 15 minutes, max, is going on half an hour! I personally could not be happier, for watching these four women bicker about President Bush makes me day. Did anyone notice Rosie snap at Barbara when she tried to move the conversation away from a fiery State Of The Union discussion? If the View is Rosie’s show, Hot Topics is her bitch. She owns that piece!

I love watching Elisabeth squirm. Less and less is she able to squawk her conservative babble, because even she is realizing she is totes wrong. Bush not mentioning Katrina in his speech! Cheney not answering questions about the contradiction of his gay daughter’s pregnancy and his homophobic policies! Elisabeth, dare I say, is becoming an independent!

Lastly, if Tina Fey were not already so good at her other job, I’d demand her on the View, stat.
Didn’t her hair look extra fabulous? Swoon.

Tuesday’s Oprah: Elizabeth Vargas chooses her family. Sort of.

Today’s Oprah was confusing as it used Elizabeth Vargas as the centerpiece of the stay at home mom “movement” because she left her job as the anchor of ABC World News to be there for her children. Half way through the interview it came out that she is now co-anchor of 20/20. So she didn’t really give up working outside the home, she gave up one job. Listen, if Lizzy wants to work as a news achor that’s fine. I just don’t know why she was used to represent stay at home moms. Anyway, Dr. Robin came on to distract me and make sure we all knew what was true and what wasn’t. She did it well, while sporting a very Rachelesque/Farah hair cut which i imagine is hard to do for a black woman. In the end nothing was really decided but I’m sure everyone was left wondering why Oprah doesn’t adopt a baby herself and create a superhuman to rule the world when she can’t anymore.
